Van Life – Our Amazing Stealth Solar Power Set up! Off Grid Camper Van

Check out our new Guide to Van Life:

– We installed a 300 Watt solar system in our stealth campervan and we love it! It makes living in a van much more comfortable, especially since we’re also working in the van!

We’re using Renogy’s flexible (bendable) 100 Watt panels, a 40 amp MPPT charge controller, a 500 Watt pure-sine inverter and a 155 ah Deep Cycle AGM battery from VMAX. Watch the video to check out how we installed it!

If you want more information about the components, prices, etc., check out our blog post about the solar panel system here:

Thanks for watching!

  1. I have the full set up from Renogy with the same panels and charge controller, lithium batteries, and a bigger inverter. My only beef with Renogy is that the cables do not fit the battery poles. For this reason my whole set up is still in the box. I'm currently using the original Renogy Lycan power box with 3 thin film solar panels. The plastic of the panels has started to degrade and I've noticed rust on my roof from the debris buildup under them. Renogy recommended using Sikaflex adhesive when I installed my panels. I'd be super nervous about that velcro.

  2. When you said, “I didn’t know what I was doing,” I said, “Oh, thank god,” because that means I can do it too. 🙏❤️

  3. So ive heard solar panels are better if they dont get too hot and that space between the panels and the van is best for air flow. How true is this and have you had any issues with the panels laying flat on the top of the van?

  4. Great job with the video and the solar panels!!
If I may ask, where did you get the roof rack from? Do you have link to that item by any chance?

  5. Thank u for telling us so much on the solar panels this helps me find the ones best for us in this overhaul w/o losing out the stealth ability.

  6. Thanks for the video, very tidy setup 🙂 How did you find the flexible solar panels? I had read that they are quite unreliable and tend to fail. Since this video is 5 years old, how did they fare in all this time?
